Khaki Coup

Hey Guys & Dolls,
This is the last post from my autumn look book and it features my last piece from the Marks & Spencer featured campaign in the September issue of Vogue UK on the last day of faithful November.
For someone who doesn’t like wearing dresses very much, I have accumulated quite a number of them. This particular piece was love at first sight and I knew I was gong to buy it the moment I set my eyes on it. I fell in love with the versatility of this dress- it is simply a stylist’s dream.

Furthermore, I am extremely grateful for all the support I have received this month. Without people supporting and constantly pushing me creatively, I wouldn’t be here challenging myself and requiring more for the direction of this blog. I am extremely glad at how much I have achieved and I can only hope to do more in this last month of 2015. Let’s finish the year with a bang.

Mau

“You see, sometimes I'm good. Oh, I'm very good. But sometimes I'm bad. But only as bad as I wanna be. Freedom is power. To live a life untamed and unafraid is the gift that I've been given, and so my journey begins.”

Hey Guys & Dolls,
How are y’all doing? I am so excited to share this post with you just because it exemplifies something that I have always wanted to do but thought I could never pull off. That’s right; I have always wanted to wear my outerwear and only my outerwear as my outfit without the unintended scarlet women subtext.
I grew up what society would deem a good girl until I wasn’t and now I’m not because I have finally accepted all of who I am. There is something about living in a label that feels like a cage. Being deemed a ‘good girl’ meant I had to live up to certain expectations and as a result, I never really accepted the other parts of me. Don’t get me wrong, I am not proclaiming to be a bad girl. I am merely saying that by accepting the best and worst of me, I became free and freedom is power. I feel empowered knowing in reason and in will, that I am exactly who I want to be, doing exactly what I want to do and saying the things I want to say the best way I know how.

Heirloom

Hey Guys & Dolls,
At the beginning of my autumn look book, I mentioned in the post ‘autumn leaves’ that Marks & Spencer had a featured campaign in the September issue of Vogue UK magazine. In addition to the pieces that featured in that post, I also picked up the pleated skirt photographed below.
I have gone over the umpteenth million ways I could style this skirt in my head and as indecisive as I can be, if I didn’t choose one, we’d all be reading this post with no pictures.
I went for the look below because you can still buy everything I am wearing, bar the skirt on the M&S website.

Jumper: Marks & Spencer (Childrenswear)
Skirt: Marks & Spencer
Boots: Marks & Spencer

What do y’all think of my autumn look? Let me know below. I am Destini Monet and you have been reading ‘The Black Mannequin’.

Grey Santolina

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Can you believe we are more than halfway through the month already? Which means we are approximately 36 days away from Christmas and 43 days away from 2016.
Everyone gets excited about the different types of magic that surrounds Christmas but for me, the penultimate month of the year is a time to reflect on the goals I had set for the year and how much of these I have achieved. December, on the other hand, is a time for me to start working on what I want outta the next year.
2015, however, is not over yet so if you still have the resolutions/plans you made at the beginning of the year, try and work towards accomplishing those.
