Do You See This Coat?

Hey Guys & Dolls,
If you know me intimately, you’d know I wrote this whole post with Kanye West on the brain. I just love that guy and his contribution to the world. He is a crazy creative! I’m talking GENIUS!
Kanye tweeted on the 23 September 2015, “Please: Do everything you possibly can in one lifetime”.
As I was inspired by the tweet, I decided to blog this very bright but yet autumn appropriate look. I mean, do y’all see this coat?

Emerald Dreams

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Do y’all know what I love about fashion? It’s that you can plan a bomb outfit in your head, put it on and it turns out looking like a pile of crap.
Yet, the great thing about style is, knowing what works for you along with the ability to think on your feet.
When I put this outfit together, it looked nothing like what has been photographed but autumn is here and I figured, what better time to play around with some graphic prints and texture.

Autumn Leaves

“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face”. –John Donne

Hey Guys & Dolls,
It is official; autumn (fall) is finally here. Autumn happens to be my favourite season. There is something absolutely enchanting about autumn and I cannot explain that to you guys, you sorta, kinda have to experience it for yourself.
M&S had a featured campaign in the Vogue UK magazine last month and I happened to pick up a few pieces that I know I am going to be incorporating into my autumn wardrobe.
Autumn Leaves illustrates the first ensemble from my Fall Look book and I hope you like it.

The AUTUMN/WINTER 2015 Trend Report

“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And Style is what you choose’.  –Lauren Hutton

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Welcome back to The Black Mannequin. I have been receiving a lot of feedback and encouragement regarding TBM from a lot of readers and friends. I am both happy and excited about the future and direction of TBM and I cannot wait to share it with all of you.
However, that’s not what you’re here for. Following the end of Fashion Month, this post aims to educate you on what’s Hot, straight off the runway.

THE TRENDS

THAT 70s SHOW
Boho chic swings right on for a second season in a row allowing the 70's fashion lover to enjoy their favourites for another season. Looking at the catwalk, there’s a lot of emphasis placed on floaty flares and dresses, fringing and *drumroll please* the poncho. It is however a lot more romantic in terms of aesthetic in comparison to the S/S trend.

80s REVIVAL
Rock and rolling on from the 70s, a little bit of the 80s kicks in with electric neons paired with neutrals to create an overall sophisticated look. You can look forward to the re-birth of power shoulders, lame, polka dots, ruffles, retro belts and Velvet.

NOUVEAU VICTORIANA
Whilst fashion seems to be going back decades every season, it seems to have gone back centuries, 19th to be precise, for this particular trend. Although designers stuck to the traditional silhouettes with high collars, ruffles and lace all making an appearance, the trend was given a modern resurgence when the traditional silhouette was subverted with bright colors, sheer fabrics and pussy-bow/leather trims.

SHEARLING
Shearling is another trend that refuses to go away. It has been incorporated into trends as far back as 09/10. However, the trend is forgiving this season as anything goes as long as it’s fluffy and in your face. I am talking shag pile gilets/vests, faux fur fight night coats and snow jackets. If that’s a little too much for you, try a faux fur stole or cuff.

GOTHIC ROMANCE
I love the gothic romance trend. It is dark, it is edgy and it is so sexy. If you love black, moody lace and high ruffle necklines, this trend is for you. It transitions well for different events and occasions from day to night and it is extremely versatile.

TURTLENECK/POLONECK
How high can you go? This utilitarian staple popped up all over the runway in so many versatile ways as designers pushed the boundaries. It was layered with everything from mannish tailoring to glitzy minidresses. I am talking under knitwear, under pinafores, paired with wide leg trousers, worn chunky over skirts …the list is just endless! I LOVE IT!

CARWASH PLEATS
Last season, we saw the rise of the A-line shape skirt but A/W’15 has a new contender and it is none other than the carwash-pleated skirt. It is a little hit and miss for me personally but if you’re still planning to show off the last of your summer tanned legs; this is the perfect way to do it. The trend is a refined take on last season’s excessive fringing trend.

THE 50 SHADES OF GREY
This is probably one of my favourite trends of the AW15 catwalk. I am a sucker for monochromatic looks but according to the powers that be, it seems monochromatic in grey is the chicest thing you can do this fall.

THE SKINNY SCARF
The skinny scarf is a lingering effect of the 70s boho trend that is sill going strong. Whilst it isn’t exactly something I’d wear, I love the versatility of the piece. It can be worn with anything and everything from a jumper dress t oa gown. It practically transitions between all outfit events.

TIGHT-ANS
When I was a little girl, everyone called me ‘Head teacher’ because of my love for tights and whilst I have managed to ditch the nickname, I can’t quite say the same for my love for tights.
On the catwalk, different styles and designs have been created for different girls and I love them all. You have ripped tights for the party girl, Swiss dot tights for the tame cocktail attendee and the classic fishnet for the retro lady.

Going back to the quote at the beginning of this post, style is definitely what you choose. If none of these trends work with your personal style, try incorporating the colours that dominated the catwalk this season.

What trends are you loving and which do you see yourself wearing? Let me know. I am Destini Monet and you have been reading ‘The Black Mannequin’.
