New In VI

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Welcome back to my blog. As illustrated by the title, I am going to be showing you some of the things I added to ‘The Black Mannequin’ closet over the last couple months. Although the post is quite ‘beauty’ heavy, I purposely didn’t cover the clothing side of it as I will be showing these in my style posts over the coming weeks.

The first thing I will be showing y’all are my purchases from the MAC Nutcracker Holiday Collection (which is now unfortunately sold out). I initially purchased the lipsticks (Flamboyish and Leap of delight) as I was enticed by the unusual shades but a second perusal of the collection saw me buying the face compact, which consisted of the famous and back by popular demand ‘Whisper of Gilt’ highlighter.
Deep down in my heart, I know I have way too many MAC highlighters (maybe I’ll do a post on my collection) and didn’t really need this but it is a collectors’ item and just had to exist in my beauty drawer.

In addition to these, I picked up some new lip liners and re-upped on some old favorites in case I run out.
As you can see from the pictures, the 3 pictured lip liners are PINK and that’s because as a lip liner addict, I find it difficult to wear pink lipsticks without a lip liner.
(FROM L-R: Magenta, Talking Points, Process Magenta)
Not pictured: Chestnut, Nightmoth
In addition, I also re-upped on the Lip conditioning hydrant. This product here is the reason why Ruby Woo is always my drink of choice when it comes to lipsticks. It makes my lips so soft and removes the tugging that comes with application of some Matte Lipsticks.

Moreover, I picked up an eyeshadow in the color ‘deep damson’ as I have been obsessed with creating an all burgundy look inspired by one of my style icons. Stay on the look out for that post.
Also, I picked up a new brow product that I didn’t even know MAC had on the market. Nevertheless, I was intrigued by the fact that it can be retracted up and down, came with its own spoole and the shape of the applicator was angled in comparison to the other design I am familiar with. I cannot wait to try it out and see which I prefer.

Revolution, a Superdrug brand is known for creating drugstore dupes for many of the higher end makeup brands so when I saw that they had a makeup finishing spray that had received rave reviews, I gave it a try.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t thrilled about the product as it didn’t work as well as I had expected but after discovering I was using the wrong one for my skin type (I am oily-combination), My friend Rachel got me the right one and I cannot complain. This makes my makeup last all day, all night.. whatever your poison is and for the price, you really cannot go wrong.
I also picked up the Pür Glitz & Glam Palette. I didn’t even know Pür had created this palette until I saw it on sale in my store. I swatched the testers and to my surprise, I actually really liked it. This set has two palettes, one for day time and one for night time which would be perfect for travelling and when I tell y’all I am all the way here for the night time palette.

Ever since I figured out what my skin type was, I have been on the hunt for the perfect foundations. At the moment, I have three in my arsenal, which I hope to share with y’all in a different post. One of the three is pictured above and it is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It is quite pricey but Foundation is the one thing I believe every beauty fanatic should invest on. If your foundation is popping, your whole makeup is gonna be BOMB!

The key to having BOMB makeup application is your tools and y’all have been rocking with me long enough to know I am obsessed with brushes. I use the same 15 brushes till they break and even then I tape them up but I have so many brushes and that didn’t stop me from collecting the Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection. Again, for makeup brushes, they are quite expensive but in my defence, I collected them over the course of two years.

The above picture exemplifies two of my favourite scents. Dolce & Gabbana the one is one of my favourite all time scents because like me, it is dominating and demands attention. I like a scent that alerts people to my presence and that is exactly what the Robert Cavalli perfume does. The Oud Al Qasr is part of a three-perfume Oud collection and if I am going by what this one does, I probably will collect them all.
This scent immediately always takes me back to Dubai and Abu Dhabi when I wear it and that Leather tone makes me feel like I could rule the world.

If you read my ‘Varsity’ post, you will have seen this post but the boots I had on in varsity were so huge, I had to send them back and size down. The only thing about sizing down is that I had to break them in and if you watch me on Snapchat, you will see that it has been a journey. Now I know why they say, Beauty is Pain.

Finally, I thought I would add some tech bits in here.
Y’all, I finally had to let go of my iPhone 5S or should I say, it let me go.
My longest relationship ended so abruptly that I literally had to get a new phone and so I decided to get the iPhone 7 in Matt Black. The iPhone 7 is BOMB; I can’t believe I waited so long to get a new phone.
And whilst I love it, I really can’t believe they took away the Jack connector, which means I can’t listen to music and charge my phone at the same time. This was inconvenient for like a day then I remembered that I had some Wireless Beats that I hadn’t opened from a few months back. What perfect time than now!!!
Lastly, I headed off to Xander and Bow for my personalised phone case cause who doesn’t like their name on everything.

Let me know if you loved the new additions to the Closet.

ANTI

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and seeing as I do not celebrate the holiday, I have decided to go against the status quo.
Usually, I am quite excited about Valentine’s Day as I tend to live vicariously through everyone else but this year, my feelings are quite reflected via my fit.
I was stuck between leaving my bed and treating myself to a nice dinner, which will explain the elevated ‘lingerie as outerwear’ look. I guess you could describe what I was feeling as ANTI-SOCIAL.

Lingerie: Marks & Spencer
Trousers: AQ/AQ

What are you wearing on Valentine’s Day? Leave me a comment below.

ALEXANDER WANG X DESTINI MONET II

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Today, I am going to delve a little into the world of Sports Luxe; a trend that infiltrated fashion back in 2014 and never left.
From what I know, Sports Luxe was never really a thing and the closest we got fashion wise was overpriced, over embellished sweatpants with coordinating hoodies endorsed by one celebrity or the other.

Fast-forward approximately a decade later and the fashion industry is introduced to Alexander Wang and the art of Athleisure.
Whilst I wouldn’t call myself an athlete or someone who works out for that matter (although I am not averse to it), athleisure both provides technical performance characteristics for those who actually need it and a fashion element for those that just want to look like they do.

So what is actually Athleisure? Well, it is a blanket term for activewear that is not meant to be sweat in. It sounds ridiculous but it has paved the way for brands like IVY PARK, which has grown to be a cult favourite amongst many for the reasons stated above.

I own a lot of athleisure pieces of which I cannot vouch for their technical purposes because I have never worn them for that purpose and rightly so, because when you look this good, why waste it on the gym?

EVE

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Welcome back to my blog. I wanted this year to convey a sense of power and authority, which is why I titled my blogger’s note, #TheKingship
A lot of people asked me what it meant, what I was trying to say and how it related to a style and fashion blog. The answer is quite simple really.
According to cultural-anthropological studies, clothing more than offers protection to the human body. It functions as a form of communication, which includes but isn’t limited to expressing one’s cultural identity, indicating political, religious or social standing.
For me, fashion is how I say the things I want to say and it usually covers anything from the sociogenesis of a persona to a simple 'I am hungry' which brings me to ‘EVE’. EVE was the first thing I wore this year and signifies a personal decision to LIVE. When I envisioned the outfit, I wanted to purport simplicity, independence and rebellion. How did I do?
