Free Spirited

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Today’s post brings you another interpretation of one of spring/summer’s concept and it is the paperbag waist. I happened to own a pair in black, which isn’t very spring-y and so I thought I’d give it some shock factor by pairing it with another spring trend that I absolutely adore, wearing your underwear as outerwear. Don’t worry y’all; I didn’t leave my house like this. It was simply for the purpose of the blog because well, what is fashion without risk?

Tangerine

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it and join the dance.” –Alan W. Watts

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Spring is here and I’m going to be jumping straight into how those catwalk trends can be everyday/night wearable.
This season, different shades of the colour orange made bold appearances across some designers’ palettes and this ranged from Dion Lee, Adam Selman, Baja East and Veronica Beard to Altuzarra.

I thought I’d inspire y’all and show you how I have decided to incorporate the trend into my spring closet with my very first AQ/AQ purchase and my 24th birthday OOTD.

Jumpsuit: AQ/AQ
Bangle: FURLA
Sandals: ZARA

Will you be rocking the orange trend this spring? What did you think of my spring look? Leave me a comment below; I’d love to hear from you. I am Destini Monet and you have been reading ‘The Black Mannequin’.

The SPRING/SUMMER 2016 Trend Report

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Yesterday marked the end of winter and the beginning of spring and as per usual, I am here to educate y’all on what the hottest trends are, straight off the runway.

THE TRENDS

SLIP DRESSES
•hits the nae nae and the milly rock• LOL!
SS16 is looking pretty delicate and sensual with the lead concept being one of my favourite trends, underwear as outerwear.
It incorporates everything you need from satin to chiffon and especially that scalloped lace. YAY!!!!

GO GO GINGHAM STYLE
Fashion’s favourite pattern has been given a makeover. Gingham was seen in an array of silhouettes from various fashion houses.

THE 90S
I have been waiting what seems like forever for the decades to roll over to the 90s and it is finally here. The 90s, in my opinion, was one of the coolest eras and its rebirth has brought back everything from the oversized jacket to the bomber jacket, the trainers, the caps and surprisingly, the tracksuit. This is street chic on steroids. I LOVE IT!

PRETTY PLEATS
In addition to waving goodbye to winter, we can also wave goodbye to the carwash pleats that dominated the Autumn/Winter 15 shows. It would seem designers are opting for thinner razor sharp knife-like pleats. Pleats left the realm of girl next door this season as they appeared in a range that encompassed skirts, pants, dresses and vibrant colours for a fresh and modern take on the classic trend.

MIRROR MIRROR
For a show stopping, jaw dropping heavy dose of glamour effect, grab yourself a holographic dress, a foil skirt or a mirror-embellished collarless coat. I can guarantee you; you will either stop or cause traffic. If you’re more muted with the type of attraction you want to attract, then may I suggest holographic accessories? Think brocade, lamé and chain mail.

RUFFLES
There are so many romantic elements to spring and this season has brought us Ruffles. Whilst some fashion houses went for minimal structures, others went all out for shredded aesthetics. I LOVE IT!

THE X-FACTOR
This concept combines the best of the halter neck and the off-the-shoulder silhouettes that came with the 70s trend.

PAPERBAG WAISTS
I have always loved how elongated my legs look in a pair of paperbag waist trousers but if you’re not a fan, you can also get paperbag waist skirts. I know it doesn’t exactly seem like it’s real life wearable but you’d be wrong. The key is to make sure the paperbag item is your key piece and wear it with a fitted top otherwise the trend might swallow you.

NOTHING BUT NET
I have always believed that honesty transparency is the best policy and whilst this trend is daring, it simply encourages you to flaunt it if you got it. Literally. However, if you find it a little much, why don’t you opt for, chiffon or mesh.

Which of the aforementioned trends are you loving and planning to implement in your spring wardrobe? Leave me a comment below; I would love to hear from you. I am Destini Monet and you have been reading ‘The Black Mannequin’.

#CasualGlam

Hey Guys & Dolls,
Welcome back to my blog. I wanted to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you over the last week. I am so thankful for all the retweets on Twitter, all the shares on Facebook and all the +1s on Google+. It really means a lot to me to receive this level of support and feedback from everyone. Love Y’all.

I am still in a celebratory mood which means I am somewhat still in GLAM mode. However, January and February brought out my casual side and as a result, I have decided to go halves on the look with a #CasualGlam
The look is very stripped back and the effortlessness, which is reflective of everything I am at present, is probably why I love this look so much.
