Hey Guys & Dolls,
Yesterday marked the end of winter and the
beginning of spring and as per usual, I am here to educate y’all on what the
hottest trends are, straight off the runway.
THE TRENDS
SLIP DRESSES
•hits the nae nae and the milly rock• LOL!
SS16 is looking pretty delicate and sensual
with the lead concept being one of my favourite trends, underwear as outerwear.
It incorporates everything you need from
satin to chiffon and especially that scalloped lace. YAY!!!!
GO GO GINGHAM STYLE
Fashion’s favourite pattern has been given a
makeover. Gingham was seen in an array of silhouettes from various fashion
houses.
THE 90S
I have been waiting what seems like forever
for the decades to roll over to the 90s and it is finally here. The 90s, in my
opinion, was one of the coolest eras and its rebirth has brought back
everything from the oversized jacket to the bomber jacket, the trainers, the
caps and surprisingly, the tracksuit. This is street chic on steroids. I LOVE
IT!
PRETTY PLEATS
In addition to waving goodbye to winter, we
can also wave goodbye to the carwash pleats that dominated the Autumn/Winter 15
shows. It would seem designers are opting for thinner razor sharp knife-like
pleats. Pleats left the realm of girl next door this season as they appeared in
a range that encompassed skirts, pants, dresses and vibrant colours for a fresh
and modern take on the classic trend.
MIRROR MIRROR
For a show stopping, jaw dropping heavy dose
of glamour effect, grab yourself a holographic dress, a foil skirt or a
mirror-embellished collarless coat. I can guarantee you; you will either stop
or cause traffic. If you’re more muted with the type of attraction you want to
attract, then may I suggest holographic accessories? Think brocade, lamé and
chain mail.
RUFFLES
There are so many romantic elements to spring
and this season has brought us Ruffles. Whilst some fashion houses went for
minimal structures, others went all out for shredded aesthetics. I LOVE IT!
THE X-FACTOR
This concept combines the best of the halter
neck and the off-the-shoulder silhouettes that came with the 70s trend.
PAPERBAG WAISTS
I have always loved how elongated my legs
look in a pair of paperbag waist trousers but if you’re not a fan, you can also
get paperbag waist skirts. I know it doesn’t exactly seem like it’s real life
wearable but you’d be wrong. The key is to make sure the paperbag item is your
key piece and wear it with a fitted top otherwise the trend might swallow you.
NOTHING BUT NET
I have always believed that honesty
transparency is the best policy and whilst this trend is daring, it simply
encourages you to flaunt it if you got it. Literally. However, if you find it a
little much, why don’t you opt for, chiffon or mesh.
Which of the aforementioned trends are you
loving and planning to implement in your spring wardrobe? Leave me a comment
below; I would love to hear from you. I am Destini Monet and you have been reading
‘The Black Mannequin’.
